Bone-a-Fide Dog Ranch

We will be out of town twice in the summer and again during the holidays. The sitter we have is decent, but she only has an apartment and Yoshi won’t bathroom on a leash (she’s had a yard for so long I don’t think she realizes she can? I don’t know, she literally will not…

Mine go to a social kennel which sounds similar to this except that mine has the dogs separated to sleep. I have had good experiences and my dogs like going there. Ratchet came home once with a small scrape on his nose but nothing serious .

My place does several different groups of dogs based on temperment and size

Often men do not understand that women have to walk home carrying protection. I have friends who carry keys, mace, and keychain clubs. I carry a switchblade in my pocket when I walk home from work. The fact that I feel like I have to do so is sickening, and men should be able to see that.

I encourage men to be just as disgusted by rape culture as women. Aren’t you angry that a small percentage of your sex forces women to carry weapons and assume the worst of you when you walk home behind them?

We shouldn’t have to live in a culture that breeds necessary fear of strangers. I shouldn’t need a knife to walk home in the dark.

Yuuup, I always walk home like this, even if I’m walking from my driveway to my front door.

My mother taught me to do this when i was nine. How fucked is the world that she had to do that?

It is day two of the tourney (which we aren’t going to) and he hasn’t bugged me once.

Good news is neither dog was traumatized. Jagger ran fine after and got his fdch. Prowl didn’t even let the crash stop that run.

Prowl definitely knows the concept of the game. He dropped the ball one run, went over a jump then realized he didn’t have it and went back for the ball and hit all the jumps. So proud. He also really loves his lamb tug.

Scientists have named a new species of bone-headed dinosaur (pachycephalosaur) from Alberta, Canada. Acrotholus audeti was identified from both recently discovered and historically collected fossils. Approximately six feet long and weighing about 40 kilograms in life, the newly identified plant-eating dinosaur represents the oldest bone-headed dinosaur in North America, and possibly the world. Dr. Michael Ryan, curator of vertebrate paleontology at The Cleveland Museum of Natural History, co-authored research describing the new species, which was published May 7, 2013 in the journal Nature Communications…

“The unique fossil record of these animals suggests that we are only beginning to understand the diversity of small-bodied plant-eating dinosaurs” said lead author Evans, ROM curator, vertebrate palaeontology. Small mammals and reptiles can be very diverse and abundant in modern ecosystems, but small dinosaurs (less than 100 kg) are considerably less common than large ones in the fossil record. Whether this pattern is a true reflection of dinosaur communities, or is related to the greater potential for small bones to be destroyed by carnivores and natural decay, has been debated. The massively constructed skull domes of pachycephalosaurs are resistant to destruction, and are much more common than their relatively delicate skeletons—which resemble those of other small plant-eating dinosaurs….

“This fully domed and mature individual suggests that there is an undiscovered, hidden diversity of small-bodied dinosaurs. So when we look back, we need to reimagine the paleoenvironment. There is an evolutionary history that we just don’t know because the fossil record is incomplete…”

I’ve got a flyball tournament this weekend two hours away from here. Any suggestions on what I can bring as a vegan lunch? Whatever it is will need to be fine at room temperature and easy to eat in between running dogs.

I’m taking up a shake for breakfast and packing some nut-mixes for between run snacks.

I’ve only two students and had to convince the club to let me go forward with only two students. Totally worth it. We all get along great and spend the time between joking around. Plus I can tailor the class to both dogs specific needs. Totally pumped about that class.

My beginner agility class is an interesting blend. Some background - my club has both yank-and-crank and PR instructors. I can always tell which students came from the dominance based instructors. Also, half of the dogs are terrified of me. I’m going to have to roll myself in liver next class.

Had a small panic attack when I found out that not all beer is vegan but thankfully Paddock Wood is vegan (as is Rickards Red when I’m am at a work thing)

Day three meals - dry toast. The naproxen is a little rough on my stomach, but thankfully it seems to be working a bit.

I also had a small fear that Bern was resource guarding spots - but apparently she just growled because Tesla sat on her tail.

Day two of veganing is a success-ish. I had a veganaise and daiya sandwich for lunch, and another salad for supper. Yes I”ll be eating more than salads. I just got some field green on clearance that need to be used up.

Oh, and apparently this headache that I’ve had for the past six days is a less potent than my regular, but drawn out and not going away migraine. Finally talked to my doctor (who had to squeak me in since the receptionist put my appointment in for yesterday - thankfully he is a wonderful person) and I got an Rx to deal with it. Its my second migraine this month and it is probably due to stress from work. Though I think I will see about getting an eye appointment to make sure nothing is wonky with my vision.
